WASHINGTON, DC – Maria Kivisild Ogrydziak, Chairman of The U.S.- Baltic Foundation’s Board of Directors announced today that Washington, DC premiere of the film “The Singing Revolution” directed by James Tusty and Maureen Castle Tusty will be held on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 2:00 pm at the E Street Theater, 555 11th Street NW, Washington, DC. Immediately following the film, James Tusty will participate in a question and answer session with the audience. Tickets for the screening are $12.00 each and must be purchased through The U.S.-Baltic Foundation’s website www.usbaltic.org.
“The Singing Revolution” is a documentary film that tells the story of Estonia’s undeniable thirst for self-determination and its unshakable belief in what it means to be free – to be Estonian. The movie chronicles Estonia’s non-violent march toward freedom. From the 1939 secret (and illegal) protocols of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact between Stalin and Hitler that would ignite World War II, the Siberian Gulag and the Estonian underground resistance knows as the Forest Brothers, “The Singing Revolution” stands as a tribute to a people whose spirit as a free nation was kept alive under astonishing circumstances.
There are 140 seats available at the premiere screening on April 18. The only way to purchase tickets for the premiere screening is through The U.S.- Baltic Foundation’s web site www.usbaltic.org. All major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover are accepted. Once the payment is received, each person’s name will be added to the list of attendees which will be held at the door on April 18. Individuals may not purchase tickets at the door.
The U.S.- Baltic Foundation (USBF) was established in 1990 to unite all Americans who supported the aspirations of the people of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania for democracy and independence and are dedicated to strengthening our trans-Atlantic ties with the Baltics in the 21st century. As is described on our website (www.usbaltic.org), in the 1990’s USBF initiated a broad range of programs including municipal government development, training for independent media professionals and NGO development. As an advocate for closer U.S.- Baltic relations, USBF also initiated a broad range of cultural, government and public relations programs including a nationwide tour of Baltic modern art and our Ambassador’s Council luncheons in the U.S. Capitol.
